About Our Hospital
Welcome to Clayton Animal Hospital. Our hospital was established in 1986 to serve the medical needs of small animals. Our goal is to provide the best patient care possible. Once you visit us, we hope that you will recommend us to your friends.
Medical and Geriatric Services
Our facility is proud of its diagnostic capabilities. We have on-site blood testing and digital x-ray equipment to provide speedy evaluation of sick patients. Furthermore, pets with liver problems, kidney disease or diabetes can be periodically monitored. For our older patients, pre-operative blood work reduces anesthetic risk.
A cardiac oscilloscope and EKG unit help evaluate our patients with heart problems. A local radiologist is available to perform ultrasound examinations by appointment. This service is invaluable in diagnosing heart problems and other medical conditions.
Critically ill patients do not have time to wait while blood work is sent to an outside lab. Our in-house blood-gas, electrolyte, and coagulation testing equipment allows for rapid patient evaluation. An oxygen generator is available to meet both short and long term needs of cardiac and respiratory patients.
Same Day Surgery
With most routine surgeries patients go home the same day. This is possible because we use a gas anesthetic called Isoflurane. Isoflurane is commonly used in human medicine. It is effective, safe, and produces rapid recovery rates. These qualities make it ideal for use in pets as well.
A pulse oximeter is used with all surgeries to monitor heart rate and blood oxygen level. This instrument helps us maintain the ideal depth of anesthesia and reduces risk.
Laser Surgery
Clayton Animal Hospital is the first in the area to offer laser surgery. The laser seals nerve endings and blood vessels as it cuts. This dramatically reduces post-operative pain in procedures such as cat declaws. With oral surgeries, particularly soft palate resections of bulldogs and pugs, bleeding control is remarkable. Small skin lesions may often be “lasered off” using a local anesthetic.
Acupuncture
One of our practicing veterinarians, Dr. Stacey Beam, is certified with the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society. She uses acupuncture to help with a number of disorders including pain, stiffness, and some skin conditions by stimulating precise locations near the surface of the body. Such stimulation causes many natural chemicals to be released which can inhibit pain, increase blood flow and stimulate bone and wound healing.
Eklin™ Digital Radiology
A digital radiology system enables our hospital to take excellent quality x-rays with a minimum number of exposures. Aside from North Carolina State University’s veterinary school, our hospital is the first animal hospital in the area to use the EklinTM system. Many radiologists feel this system offers superior image quality to film processing.
Style Unleashed ™ Pet Grooming and Bathing
Professional grooming for dogs and cats is available by appointment Monday through Friday. Large or small, junior or senior pets are welcome. Complimentary baths are provided with all grooms.
Baths are performed every weekday. Nail trims, ear cleaning, and anal gland expression are performed at no additional fee.
Boarding
Boarding facilities are available for both dogs and cats. When weather permits, dogs spend part of the day outside in individual runs. At night, all animals are secured inside.
Unless otherwise requested, all pets are fed Hill’s® Science Diet. Rubber racks are provided in cages to increase the comfort and cleanliness of our guests.
All boarders are required to be current on vaccines. Dogs and cats are usually kept in separate rooms to reduce stress. Any animals with contagious diseases are kept in the hospital isolation room.
Fees and Payment Policy
Our fees are based on customary charges. Payment is expected at the time services are rendered. We accept cash, check, MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and CareCredit (www.carecredit.com).
Drop-Off Service
For vaccinations and routine procedures, we offer a drop-off service at no additional charge. Patients may be “dropped off” after 7:30 am and picked up any time before closing.
